Sculptra® Aesthetic is an FDA-approved injectable that helps gradually replace lost collagen — an underlying cause of facial aging — for results that can last more than two years. Not all treatments or injectables are created the same. Some target different areas of the face, and, more importantly, produce different effects.
How Does Sculptra® Work?
As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra® Aesthetic is different from other dermal fillers. It works with your body within the deep dermis, rather than topically, to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. As the Sculptra® Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds.

Radiesse® is a wrinkle filler used to plump the skin. Radiesse® is injected through a small needle and placed under the skin. Immediately, this filler works to add volume under the skin and over time, the benefits of Radiesse® continue by stimulating your body’s own natural collagen. The natural results have been shown to last a year or more in many patients, making the treatment results both immediate and long lasting. Radiesse® is popularly injected in the face and hands to fill the appearance of any hollowness.
Why Choose Radiesse®?
Radiesse® immediately replenishes lost volume and stimulates the production of your own natural collagen with results that can last a year or more in many patients. Over time, the gel is absorbed and the body metabolizes the CaHA microspheres leaving behind only your own natural collagen.
Mechanism of Action
Radiesse® is comprised of Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqueous gel carrier.
Once injected, it provides immediate volume and correction but continues to work by stimulating the body to produce its own natural collagen.
Over time, the gel is absorbed and the body metabolizes the CaHA microspheres leaving behind only your own natural collagen.

The Restylane® line is a clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid that is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to visibly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including the lines that run from your nose toward the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corners of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines).
Restylane® can be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). Restylane® may also be used for lip enhancement.
As we age, our skin loses elasticity and the lines that run from the sides of the nose toward the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corner of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines) become more pronounced. Restylane® Defyne is crafted with XpresHAn TechnologyTM† to correct these deepened lines.3† The unique cross-linking of the gel in Restylane® Defyne is also designed to help support your facial expressions—for natural-looking results that help maintain your natural movement.
As skin loses elasticity with age, the lines that run from the sides of your nose toward the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corner of your mouth toward the chin (marionette lines) appear more noticeable. Restylane® Refyne is a specifically formulated hyaluronic acid dermal filler made with XpresHAn TechnologyTM† that helps correct these lines for a more natural look to your face.3,4 The unique cross-linking of the gel in Restylane® Refyne is also designed to help support your natural expression—for real-life results that help maintain natural movement when you’re smiling, frowning and even puckering up.
Finally, a filler that can help you achieve your ideal lips. Restylane® Silk is the first FDA-approved product specifically designed for lip augmentation and the smoothing of wrinkles around the mouth. The lips and the lines around the mouth, like other areas of the face, show signs of aging as you get older. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip. Restylane® Silk is designed specifically to provide natural-looking results in these particular areas by using smaller, smoother hyaluronic acid particles than those used in other Restylane® products.

Juvéderm® is a family of injectable hyaluronic acid dermal fillers used to provide 9 months to one year of correction for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth). It is not indicated for use in lip augmentation. Juvéderm® products are a smooth consistency gel, compared to some hyaluronic gel products that have a granular consistency. Juvéderm® products are developed using the Hylacross technology to allow a smoother, malleable gel.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance that delivers nutrients to the skin, helping the skin retain moisture and softness and adding volume.
Juvéderm® Ultra XC
The difference between Juvéderm® Ultra and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus is the size of the particles, with Juvéderm® Ultra Plus having a larger particle size, and thus a longer duration of action. Juvéderm® Ultra is a little softer than Juvéderm® Ultra Plus, but they are both very useful products for similar areas of the face.
For this reason, Juvéderm® Ultra Plus tends to last longer.
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC injectable gel is a colorless hyaluronic acid gel that contains a small quantity of local anesthetic (lidocaine) and is injected into facial tissue to smooth wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body. The role of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to deliver nutrients,
hydrate the skin by holding in water, and to act as a cushioning agent. The role of lidocaine is to reduce the pain associated with injections into the skin.
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face, filling moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. The lidocaine in the gel improves the comfort of the injection.
‘Regular’ Juvéderm® XC cross-links HA molecules of uniform molecular weights—they called this Hylacross. The newer Vol-named Juvéderm® products cross-link together higher and lower molecular weights—this is called Vycross technology.
- Voluma contains the thickest, strongest gel—ideal for deep injection into the cheek area to get a nice lift and volume boost.
- Volbella contains the thinnest, most spreadable gel—perfect to fill fine lip lines or even smooth the delicate area under the eyes.
- Vollure combines a “happy medium” of durability and spreadability to treat nasolabial folds while allowing for natural facial expressions and movements.
Volbella is a dermal filler used to define lips and for the correction of fine wrinkles around the lips. This temporary filler is made of Hyaluronic Acid and does not require a skin test before your injections. The smaller Hylauronic Acid particle size in Volbella allows your cosmetic injector to treat fine lines without getting a full look in these delicate areas.
Volbella is the perfect product to choose for small fine lines and subtle enhancement of the lips. The smaller particle size allows for the correction of these fine areas without getting the lips too bulky or puffy.
Using patented Vycross technology, Volbella has been proven to soften and fill lines in a majority of patients through one year. Since Volbella is also formulated with hyaluronic acid, the skin will retain moisture and softness ensuring long-lasting results. This data from Allergan includes a one month touch up so that optimal correction is achieved.
Voluma is an FDA-approved filler that’s part of the Juvederm® collection of injectables. It’s designed to be used specifically in the mid-face, adding volume to the cheeks. Voluma is made with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin. Results typically last between nine months to a year.
Voluma is a great filler to strategically add volume to change facial shape. It is often used in the cheeks and midface. Volumizing the midface restores a more youthful facial shape, making it more angular rather than rectangular, and the process of filling the skin envelope can lift, frequently softening the nasolabial folds. The farther the line or crease is from the filler, the less the effect, so I would caution you that you may see little or no change to the marionette lines and jowls.
Vollure XC in the U.S. (Volift in Europe) is part of the Juvederm® collection of hyaluronic acid facial fillers, primarily used for smoothing nasolabial folds. These fillers use Vycross technology, which blends different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid to deliver results that last up to 18 months.
